The 2025 National College Entrance Examination, known as Gaokao, took place across China from June 7 to 9, with a record-breaking 12.91 million students participating. As one of the most significant academic events in the country, this year marked the 48th anniversary since the resumption of the Gaokao system.
According to the Ministry of Education, the number of registered candidates in 2025 slightly increased compared to last year. Local governments and educational authorities worked closely to ensure a safe, fair, and smooth examination process. Comprehensive support measures were implemented nationwide, including transportation arrangements, noise control near test sites, emergency medical services, and mental health hotlines.
The Chinese language exam once again drew widespread public attention with essay topics focused on "cultural heritage and contemporary values," encouraging students to reflect on personal ideals and national spirit.
Cities across the country launched special campaigns to support students during the exam period, such as “Love Gaokao” transportation services, traffic restrictions around schools, and on-site psychological counselors—demonstrating society’s collective care for the next generation.
Gaokao continues to be a defining moment for millions of families in China, not only as a test of academic ability but also as a rite of passage. Following the conclusion of the exams, students will move on to the next critical steps: score inquiries, university applications, and admission notices.
As the exams come to an end, students have completed one chapter and now look forward to the next stage in their lives. We extend our best wishes to all examinees—may they achieve excellent results, enter their dream universities, and embrace the future with courage and confidence.
